MIAP Med
MIAP (Medical Immersion and Apprenticeship Program) connects pre-med students and future physicians to real-world immersive healthcare experiences and education. Medical School Students, Undergraduates, and select High School Students access exclusive clinical shadowing, surgical observation, overnight rotations, rounds, lectures, and one-on-one physician mentorship opportunities.
Programs
MIAP Med offers two distinct tiers of institutional access, each designed to provide a sophisticated understanding of the medical vocation through the lens of a Level 1 Trauma Center.
01. The Summer Fellowship (Residential)
The Premiere 2-Week Intensive
MIAP Med’s flagship summer program is an elite residential immersion that invites only nine scholars each year to the frontlines of academic medicine. This is a comprehensive deep-dive into the medical ecosystem, designed for those who seek to master both the clinical and investigative sides of the profession.
-
Clinical Immersion: Total access across the hospital landscape, from the high-velocity environment of the ER to the meticulous precision of Neurosurgery.
-
Surgical Theatre: Direct observation of complex operative procedures and surgical workflows.
-
Independent Research: Fellows develop and present an original research project under the guidance of faculty and medical staff.
-
Comprehensive Mentorship: In-depth professional development, residency application advice, and exclusive skills labs (e.g., surgical suturing and craniotomy drills).
02. The Clinical Practicum (Shadowing)
The 1-Week Surgical & Clinical Track
The Clinical Practicum is a focused, one-week apprenticeship designed for students who prioritize maximum bedside and operative observation time. This track streamlines the onboarding process, allowing for a concentrated week of professional integration.
-
Physician-Led Shadowing: Spend your week embedded with a Preceptor, observing the diagnostic and interventional process in real-time.
-
Procedural Access: Gain entry to procedural rooms, outpatient clinics, and the Operating Room (18+).
-
Flexible Shifts: Unique opportunities for overnight rotations to experience the intensity of nocturnal trauma care.
-
Onboarding Excellence: We manage all institutional clearances, HIPAA certifications, and pre-clinical preparatory lessons to ensure you arrive ready to engage.

MIAP Med fellows shadow Dr. Woodall, and develop a relationship with MCG for future opportunities. For example, Dr. Woodall set up a MIAP Med fellow for a direct shadowing opportunity with the Emergency Department where the student observed emergency femur surgery after a car accident.

offers 40 interviews of thousands of applicants per year.

-
Elite Mentorship: Fellows gain direct access to a network of Physicians, medical faculty, and residency coordinators, fostering a lifelong professional support system.
-
Collaborative Synergy: Our project-based model requires participants to work alongside healthcare professionals in a high-stakes, team-oriented environment.
-
Core Competencies: Beyond clinical knowledge, our programs refine the essential skills of a modern physician: critical thinking, clinical problem-solving, and the ability to navigate complex medical landscapes with creativity and innovation.
